Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS THE REQUIRED QPI?
Freshmen are required to achieve a QPI of 78% for each semester, rounded to the nearest two (2) decimal places.

HOW CAN I MAKE SURE I DON'T FLUNK OUT OF ALS AFTER THE FIRST SEMESTER?
You will be denied re-enrollment for the second semester if either of these instances happen:
        - you do not obtain a general weioghted average of 75%, rounded to the nearest two (2)decimal places.
        - you receive failing marks in at least three (3) subjects in a semester, regardless of the number of units and even when you attain the QPI for that semester. (Introduction to Law is considered as one subject)

WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON'T GET A 78% AVERAGE FOR THE FIRST SEMESTER?
You'll be automatically placed on academic probation for the second semester.

IF I MADE THE 78% AVERAGE BUT I FAILED A SUBJECT, WHAT HAPPENS?
You'll also be on probation. Freshmen who fail not more than two subjects are automatically placed on academic probation for the second semester

WHAT DOES PROBATION MEAN?
Freshmen on probation during their second semester must take a full load, except only for subjects which require prerequisites, and shall not be allowed to drop any subject. In addition, they shall not be allowed to take an official leave of absence, except when necessitated by illness requiring extended hospitalizationm or recuperation.
They shall not fail any subject and shall attain a whole-year QPI of 78%. If either was not reached, they will be denied re-enrollment.

IS APPEAL ALLOWED?
You may appeal your grade via your Student Appeals Commitee (SACREP) block representative. You may only appeal on ground of mathematical errors in computation and/or manifest oversight in checking of written exams. Note that an appeal is not a matter of right but a privilege granted by the school.
Your SACREP will assist you during the whole appeals process. In case you need to appeal your grades, contact your SACREP. Be reminded that your appeal will lapse seven days after the release of your grades. Give your SACREP at least four days to process your appeal. Priority will be given to those facing dismissal.

WHAT IF MY AVERAGE IS BELOW 75% FOR THE RELEASED SUBJECTS BUT THERE ARE OTHER SUBJECTS YET TO BE RELEASED?
If there are subjects pending, you may be allowed to enroll depending on the grade you need to obtain on the pending subjects. If the grade on the pending subject is achievable, you may enroll. Otherwise, the decision depends on the regiostrar. You will know their decision on the day of your enrollment. If there is a pending subject, you may appeal and enroll.

HOW DO I DROP A SUBJECT?
This may be done at any time prior to the first official date of the midterm examinations, provided you obtain within that period a confirmation by the Registrar, approved by the Dean ensuring compliance with the minimun subject load for the semester, before proceeding with the notice to and a signaure of, the concerned faculty member. A student who drops or abandons a subject beyond such period shall be given a grade of 60% in the subject(s) thus dropped or abandoned.

HOW CAN I ACHIEVE HONORS?
First Honors are granted to regular students who have obtained a weighted average of at least 90% for the semester, provided they have not dropped a subject for that semester, do not have any incomplete or failing mark(s) in any subject, and have not been found guilty of any violation of the rules and regulations of the Law School. Second Honors are granted to regular students who have obtained a weighted average of at least 85% for the semester, under the same conditions.
